ABOUT THE RACE OF CHAMPIONS

Founded in 1998 by Ford Wilson, the Race of Champions provides an exhilarating experience for children with different needs to experience for themselves the joys of soap box derby and the thrill of crossing the finish line like a champion. The first year 28 children were a part of the event, which has continued to grow and now includes more than 100 participants each year.

In 2010, the event was renamed the Ford Wilson Race of Champions in memory of Ford Wilson and his unwavering desire to provide all children, regardless of physical or developmental ability, the opportunity to be a Racing Champion. Our specially designed soap box derby cars partner our children with Professional Race Car Drivers to experience what most of us take for granted, steering a derby car with the wind whipping through our hair down the longest derby track in America!

The experience has always been and will always be a cherished moment for all of the families involved and is aimed to foster community awareness about the event and encourage participation in both the professional and local communities. The Ford Wilson Race of Champions is only possible through the tireless work of our completely volunteer staff, event volunteers, donors, and sponsors. All funds raised go back into the organization to serve and maintain this event for years to come.
